Wire-Drawing & Star Filters

Cross-screen and wire-drawing effects — streaks, stars and anamorphic-style flares engineered into the coating, printed into retail lines.

Cross-screen star-flare effect rendered by a wire-drawing filter — the effect is the product.

The Effect, Engineered

A wire-drawing filter refracts point lights into horizontal streaks; cross-screen versions cross them into star flares at 6 or 12 points. The effect lives in a fine linear microstructure combined with the coating stack — orientation accuracy, streak length and the residual image clarity are the three levers we tune to a reference or a brief.

Production covers single-axis wire-drawing, cross-screen with soft or hard halation, and star filters with custom point geometry. Orientation control matters in production: rotating mounts and index marks are packaging options for brands whose users care about streak angle.

Retail Line Building

This is the flashy end of the creative-glass assortment — the shelf companion to black mist and ND in a photography brand's effect series. Standard 49-82 mm thread formats with rings, windowed retail boxes and demo cards (a light-point sample card showing the streak in-store) ship from the same campaign schedule as the mist line, so one PO builds a full effect series.

Grade, Durability and QC

Streak intensity grades are set per design and held across batches with measured scatter checks; hydrophobic tops and rear AR are spec options for field and rental duty. Visual QC against a golden sample is standard on effect glass — the measurement catches drift the human eye would argue about.

Frequently Asked Questions

Single-axis or cross-screen?

Both, with soft and hard halation options. Cross-screen doubles the flare geometry; single-axis keeps the horizontal streak signature. Many lines stock both.

Custom star point count?

Yes — 4, 6, 8, 12-point geometries are design-time choices; send a reference frame or describe the flare.

Orientation control in the ring?

Index marks and rotation-ring options are available; specify them with the packaging tier.

Sample before commitment?

Effect samples ship from stock campaigns; judge streak character against your own reference images, then lock the grade.
